“I like being given an idea or a project and being able to run with it,” says the marketing and sport management major, who directs the new Bogey Kids Club for Bearcats fans ages two to 12. Membership includes free admission to games, a T-shirt, invitations to special events, contests, autograph sessions and more.

“It’s about getting kids here and starting to influence them so they have a good experience. Our hope is that they will one day become Bearcats, too,” she says.

Lauren interned last summer with the Gateway Grizzlies baseball organization, promoting ballpark events and news over social media and on the Frontier League team’s website. She also helped with community relations by coordinating appearances for mascot Izzy the Grizzlie, as well as business expos, birthday parties, baseball packages and group sales.

Her work-study job for McKendree’s Department of Athletics also requires multi-tasking. She is a game management student host, a supervising coordinator, and a student road race director for events such as the recent Harvest Challenge 5K, Half-Marathon and Kids’ 1K Fun Run.

Lauren hopes more students will share her enthusiastic support for Bearcat athletics. “I want people to be involved,” she says. “I want them to see what’s going on.”

“I’m a hard worker, and I’m very passionate about what I do in athletics.”

This fall, she and a classmate are working to draw more students to the university’s golf club, The Hills. “We want more people to hang out there during the football away games. During Fall Family Weekend, we want students to go there with their families. It’s a great place to eat, hang out and watch the game or sit out on the deck and use the free wi-fi. We want it to be a fun atmosphere.”
