Individual Events Team Reaches Finals at Illinois State

Lebanon, Ill. — The McKendree University individual events team opened its season
with a strong performance and a final round appearance at Illinois State University’s
tournament on Oct. 2. Twenty-four colleges and universities attended the tournament,
including the University of Illinois, the University of Notre Dame, and Truman State
University.
Representing McKendree were senior Abby Baltz; juniors Lance Allen and Darren Meeker;
sophomores Hannah Ebersohl, Josh Fleming, Miriah McCaffrey and Caitlyn Westfall; and
first-year Rebecca Blake.
Westfall (at left) reached finals in novice prose, taking sixth place after winning
her second preliminary round, while Fleming barely missed finals, after winning his
first prelim. Allen finished in second place in his second round of extemporaneous
speaking, and Baltz took second in her second round of novice poetry.
The McKendree debate and individual events team will compete next at its own tournament
on Oct. 14-16.
