Get Fit with Morning Walking and Zumba at McKendree

Lebanon, Ill. — Start the New Year off on the right foot, in high gear or low gear, and get fit at McKendree University.

For a more aggressive workout, Zumba® exercise classes will be offered every Monday and Wednesday night from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Melvin Price Convocation Center (MPCC) gymnasium complex. Zumba is an easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired dance-fitness program set to music. The classes are free for McKendree students and $3 each for everyone else; the public is welcome to participate. Classes start on Monday, Jan. 14. Zumba is for those wanting to kick-start the New Year with a “high gear” resolution.

If you prefer to ease your way into 2013, you can increase the heart rate a bit and still fulfill your resolution by joining the “Morning Walkers” group each weekday morning between 6:30 a.m. and approximately 9:30 a.m. in the Intramural Gym, located on the far north end of the MPCC. The gym is currently open on weekday mornings for fitness walking.

“For those of you in our community who would like to walk your way to wellness in the New Year, our gym is dry, clean, warm, safe, flat, well-lit, free. If you don’t mind the same scenery, 13 times around the perimeter gives you a mile,” said Kim Smallheer, director of recreation programs “After your walk, sit for a while, have a cup of coffee, and make new friends as we kick off 2013 together.”
