Help to Make the Season Bright
(LEBANON, Ill., December 23, 2014) - The McKendree University community has made the
holidays a little brighter for many local children and families in need through its
annual Christmas Family Project and Angel Tree.
“This year thanks to donations and support, we were able to help 21 families with
53 children with Christmas gifts, food, poinsettia flowers, a few Christmas trees
and decorations, and a lot of well wishes,” said the Reverend Dr. Tim Harrison, chaplain
and director of church relations.
Students, faculty and staff members also collected gifts for the “Angel Tree,” decorated
with ornament tags bearing a child’s Christmas wish.
“We had more children that needed Christmas gifts this year than in the past and were
able to deliver Christmas gifts to 216 children,” said Jessica Trout, program coordinator
for the Lyn Huxford Center for Community Service on campus. “I cannot tell you how
many people went above and beyond this year to put a smile on these children’s faces
for the holidays.”
Lindsay Winkeler, a McKendree senior from Bartelso, Ill., chaired the Angel Tree committee
this year.
