Lincoln Academy Honors the State’s Top College Seniors

(LEBANON, Ill., October 21, 2014) — Lindsay Hansard, an English and philosophy double major with a 4.0 grade point average, is McKendree University’s 2014 Lincoln Laureate. The senior honor student from Belleville, Ill., will receive the Student Lincoln Academy Medallion on Nov. 1 at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, when the Lincoln Academy of Illinois recognizes outstanding college seniors for their excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities.

A true scholar, Hansard is in McKendree’s honors program, maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average to be on the President’s List each semester. She has been inducted into three national honor societies, including Phi Kappa Phi, for academic excellence.

Her wide range of research interests include the ethics of science and technology, and African-American philosophy. She has synthesized specific areas within the humanities to produce outstanding works of scholarship, presenting at several professional conferences as a result. She has served as a research assistant to Dr. Martha Patterson, professor of English, and currently is conducting independent research on literary modernism in the Midwest as a Newberry Seminar Fellow at the Newberry Library in Chicago.

At McKendree, Hansard has led several student organizations and in 2013 she traveled to Japan for a two-week cultural exchange program as McKendree’s student ambassador to Technos International College.
