The Idea Lab logoCan You Educate, Inform and Entertain in 12-16 Minutes?

(LEBANON, Ill., June 5, 2018) — Submit your proposal now for the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts “idea lab,” which will return to McKendree University next year after a successful debut in 2016.

Modeled after the popular TED Talks (technology, entertainment and design), the 90-minute event will feature five informative, performative talks at the Hett on March 19, 2019. Anyone who can present a lively, thought-provoking talk is encouraged to submit his or her idea. Each 12 to 16-minute presentation should educate, inform, entertain, and be appropriate for a general audience and a broad age range.

A committee will review and select five speakers from all submissions received. Each speaker will receive a $1,000 stipend to cover expenses. The event will be technology friendly and speakers are encouraged to incorporate displays, media and other visual elements into their presentations.

Submissions will be accepted until Sept. 1. To apply, include your name, phone number, email address, past presentation experience, title of the talk, a one or two-sentence summary of the topic, brief description including a bulleted outline of five to 10 main points covered, and a one to two-minute video showing your ability as a presenter. Send it to: Peter Palermo, McKendree University, 701 College Rd., Lebanon, IL 62254; or PJPalermo@mckendree.edu.

Selected speakers will be announced on Oct. 1.
