McKendree 2016 Graduate Christin Austin Wins Technos Prize
Political Science Major is Honored for Academics, International Understanding
(LEBANON, Ill., May 6, 2016) — Christin Austin, a McKendree University political science major from Wayne City, Ill., has won the 2016 Technos International Prize. It was presented
on April 28 awarded during Honors Convocation held as part of the Academic Excellence
Celebration.
Through the continuing generosity of the Tanaka Educational Trust, one graduating
McKendree University senior is selected each year to receive the Technos International
Prize.
Selected by the faculty, recipients demonstrate outstanding academic performance and
an abiding commitment to the cause of international understanding.
Throughout her McKendree career, Austin maintained an outstanding grade point average
to earn membership in several honor societies, and participated in debate, student
government, and other activities. She excelled academically beyond the classroom as
well, co-writing a paper with Dr. Brian Frederking, titled “Evaluating the Human Rights
Council’s Universal Periodic Review” and presenting it at the International Studies
Association conference. She represented McKendree on the Technos International Week
trip to Japan and went on a medical mission trip to Haiti; the experience inspired
her senior thesis on the World Health Organization’s efforts there.
“Christin is an emerging global citizen and clearly worthy of the Technos International
Prize for her commitment to international understanding,” said Dr. Christine Bahr,
provost and dean.
The 2016 magna cum laude graduate plans to study health law at Saint Louis University.
