Fan Favorites, Thought-Provoking Presentations, Heart-Pounding Homecoming Show Coming to the Hett This October
(LEBANON, Ill., September 25, 2023) – The Hettenhausen Center for the Arts (the Hett) at McKendree University will be hosting a handful of dynamic shows and an intriguing discussions during the month of October. Oct. 5, 7 p.m.: Major General John J. Bartrum, Chief Executive Officer of Brightstar Innovation Group, LLC, and the mobilization assistant to the surgeon general of the Air Force and Space Force, will be speaking as part of the university’s annual Wayne E. Lanter Lecture Series, which invites influential business leaders and entrepreneurs to share their insight and strategies for success. Admission is free and open to both students and the general public.
Oct. 6, 7:30 p.m.: The Wee Heavies are back by popular demand! The Wee Heavies have won a following with their eclectic mix of Scottish, Irish and American folk music, which combines tradition, innovative and original arrangements, and moving interpretation. They create a sound rich in harmony with unexpected twists and an energy that has audiences clapping, stomping and singing along. Tickets are $35 for adults, $30 for seniors and $15 for youth.
Oct. 10, 7 p.m.: The Science of Stuck with Britt Frank focuses on the mental health myths that keep us stuck, stressed and burned out. Frank, a sought-after psychotherapist and author, will show how, with just a few key pieces of information about the brain, the capacity for choice returns and allows you to get back into the driver’s seat of your own life. This thought-provoking presentation is part of McKendree University’s George E. McCammon Memorial Distinguished Speakers Series. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, $15 for youth, and free for all university students, faculty, and staff.
Oct. 12, 10 a.m.: The Music of Lewis and Clark, presented in partnership with The Sheldon, follows the amazing adventures of Lewis and Clark with a musical journey from St. Louis, up the Missouri River, across the Rocky Mountains and all the way to the Pacific Ocean. This show is part of McKendree’s Arts Education program and is recommended for children in grades K-8. Tickets are $15 for all with reduced prices for groups.
Oct. 20, 7:30 p.m.: The Fabulous Thunderbirds will bring their iconic sound, style and showmanship to the Hett stage in a performance that is sure to bring back old memories and create new ones. The group’s distinctive and powerful sound, influenced by a diversity of musical styles, manifested itself into a unique musical hybrid via such barnburners as “Tuff Enuff” and “Wrap It Up.” Tickets are $55 for adults, $50 for seniors and $20 for youth.
