(LEBANON, Ill., August 28, 2024) – McKendree University first-year students participated in a volunteer day called “Into the Streets” as part of New Student Orientation on Saturday, Aug. 24.

Hundreds of first-year students helped out at one of many different sites, primarily in Lebanon, O’Fallon, Troy, and other surrounding communities. The sites included the following Lebanon locations: Horner Park, McAllister Park, the Lebanon Police Station, Lebanon Elementary School, H.E.L.P. for MOM, the Lebanon Fire Department, additional parks in Lebanon, St. Paul United Church of Christ, College Hill Cemetery, Cedar Ridge Health and Rehab Center, the Mermaid House, Mt. Olive Baptist Church, New Life Church, and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Additional locations include Shiloh Methodist Church, Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Shiloh, Friedens United Church of Christ in Troy, and Troy Methodist Church.

Coordinated by the University’s Lyn Huxford Center for Community Service, “Into the Streets” is a service outreach that enables students to build relationships through service, as well as learn about the help they can provide and opportunities for continued volunteer work. Faculty and staff advisors also volunteer each year to help and guide their students as they serve their local communities.
