University Selects Brightspace by D2L Learning Management System

Change Will Take Effect this Summer

(LEBANON, Ill., February 19, 2020) — McKendree University’s learning management system will soon be powered and hosted by Brightspace by D2L (formerly known as Desire2Learn), a cloud-based educational learning platform. Used for online and blended classroom learning, it will replace Blackboard this summer. Users can log in to view course content, explore tools and features, and customize their learning experience.

Brightspace will offer several advantages, including ease of use; mobility, accessibility and reliability across multiple browsers; improved data analytics; and D2L’s commitment to responsiveness and partnership as McKendree migrates to the new system. These features, and the platform’s ability to track and report on outcomes and provide administrators with data to make accurate and efficient decisions, were among the deciding factors in switching to the new system, said George Kriss, director of information technology.

“D2L’s Brightspace platform is more modern and user-friendly. When you open Facebook you get excited and this will get you excited, too,” added Dr. Tami Eggleston, associate dean for institutional effectiveness.  The change was announced to the campus community at a “reveal” event on Jan. 22.
