McKendree University Celebrates Second-Annual Founders Week with Record-Breaking “One McKendree” Giving Day
(LEBANON, Ill., February 23, 2024) – McKendree University commemorated its 196th birthday with the second annual Founders Week celebration, culminating in a remarkable One McKendree Giving Day. This day saw unprecedented success, with the McKendree community rallying together to raise a total of $458,001.60 from 422 generous donors.
This total surpassed last year’s record, tripling the dollars raised. Additionally, these contributions supported 15 different funds and programs essential to advancing the university’s mission and empowering its students.
“We are thrilled by the overwhelming support shown during this year’s Founders Week celebration,” said Stephen Kull, vice president for institutional advancement. “The incredible generosity of our community highlights the enduring impact of McKendree University and its commitment to excellence in education. Together, we are shaping future generations of leaders and innovators.”
In honor of the university’s founding year, the giving day lasted 1828 minutes, symbolizing McKendree’s enduring legacy since 1828. Themed “McKendree Heroes: Honoring Those Who Make an Impact,” this year’s celebration showcased 114 individuals on a scrolling shout-out wall, including faculty, staff, alumni, friends, volunteers, coaches, students, parents and others. These heroes exemplify the spirit and values of McKendree University.
New Baden, Ill., resident Scott Billhartz, a 1985 graduate and a beloved figure with a long tenure in the Office of Development, Alumni and Parent Relations, emerged as the most celebrated McKendree Hero. Known for his unwavering dedication and embodiment of McKendree’s values, Billhartz’s recognition by so many comes as no surprise to those who know him. He exemplifies everything that is good about McKendree University.
The success of the One McKendree Giving Day emphasizes the profound dedication and spirit of giving with the McKendree community, solidifying its reputation as a leader in higher education.
