Miller Elected to Phi Eta Sigma National Executive Board
McKendree Chapter Receives Pyramid Award for Third Straight Year
(LEBANON, Ill., October 22, 2018) — Jennifer Miller, Ed.S., co-adviser of the McKendree
University chapter of Phi Eta Sigma first-year honor society, will serve a four-year
term on the Society’s national executive board. Student delegates elected her during
“Operation Opportunity,” Phi Eta Sigma’s national convention held Oct. 12-14 in Washington,
D.C.
Attending the convention with Miller on behalf of McKendree were Dr. Ann Collins,
chapter co-adviser, and student members Haegen Boyer, Meredith Geyer, Magdalena Knapp
and Shelby Summer. Knapp was recognized by the national office for receiving the $5,000
Bill W. Shafer Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship. Summer served as the chapter’s student
delegate.
Participants shared ideas, learned about other chapters’ practices and procedures,
and heard about internship and study abroad opportunities from invited speakers and
workshop discussions. Miller led a roundtable discussion about encouraging invitees
to join the organization. Student members had the opportunity to participate in the
governance of the Society through committees and general business sessions.
The national office of Phi Eta Sigma also recognized the McKendree chapter with a
Pyramid Award for a third consecutive year. The society grants Pyramid status annually
to local campus chapters that demonstrate strength, stability, and long-standing tradition.
Chapters must meet specified requirements for consistency in new member inductions,
appropriate communication with the national office, proper reporting of activities,
and participation in the national scholarship program.
