Recognition for Associate Part-Time Faculty in Communication, Business

(LEBANON, Ill., May 11, 2021) — McKendree University recently honored two part-time associate faculty members for their commitment to outstanding teaching and student engagement. The 2021 awardees are Heather Schoenherr, an undergraduate communication instructor for 22 years; and Joan Winkelmann, an instructor in the MBA program for 12 years. Both took on extra teaching responsibilities during the past year during the coronavirus pandemic.

Schoenherr, a 1996 McKendree graduate from O’Fallon, Ill., brings career experience in human resources, training and professional communication to the classroom. She has taught several courses including Fundamentals of Communication, Business and Professional Presentations, and Training and Development. She developed the communication program’s first online course in 2011 and taught the first online version of Fundamentals of Communication course in 2020.

Winkelmann, of Belleville, Ill., has taught Business Research Methods and Applications and the Stakeholder Management and Ethics course in the MBA program since 2008, and recently added the Global Organizations and Management course. Colleagues complimented her steady demeanor, leadership, adaptability and willingness to teach MBA students online and on campus when face-to-face classes resumed. She dedicates many hours before and after classes to help her students succeed and they consistently respond with favorable course reviews and admiration.
