'Almost, Maine' is a Play About Love and Transitions
McKendree University Theatre Students Perform at the Hett, Nov. 5-8
(LEBANON, Ill., November 2, 2015) - A large ensemble cast from the McKendree University
Theatre Department presents “Almost, Maine,” nine vignettes about love with a few
surprise endings, Nov. 5-8 at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts.
On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it
seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover
in the star-filled sky, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love
in unexpected, often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the
bruises heal, and the hearts mend - almost - in this delightful midwinter night’s dream.
Written by John Cariani, “‘Almost, Maine’ is a play about transitions,” said Director
Michelle Magnussen. “Each character faces a choice - risk everything for a chance
at love, or stay safe and refuse to take that leap. The chance for happiness requires
a leap into the unknown. Some characters are willing to take that chance, others are
not. That’s what I find fascinating about it.”
The play will be staged on Nov. 5, 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. and on Nov. 8 at 2:30 p.m.
Admission is free. The Hett opens for general admission seating 30 minutes before
