Fall 2018 Recap


WOMEN’S BOWLING

Women's Bowling Coach Shannon O’Keefe won her first Professional Women's Bowling Association Player of the Year award in 2018 and became the first woman bowler to win the QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in her home country. In January, junior Breanna Clemmer won the National Amateur Bowling Championship and made Team USA.


CROSS COUNTRY

The women's and men's cross country programs sent six runners each to the NCAA Midwest Regional. The women finished 21st in the 6K and had two top 50 finishers with seniors Quincy McSweeney and Ali Peyton crossing the finish line with times of 23:16.8 and 23.21.4. The men finished 29th in the 10K.


FOOTBALL

Four Bearcats earned All-Great Lake Valley Conference (GLVC) first-team accolades this season, including senior offensive lineman Cole Foster, senior running back Preston Thompson, senior wide receiver Jalyn Williams and sophomore kicker Josh Lazaro.


POWERLIFTING

The men’s and women’s powerlifting teams won the Male and Female Junior National Championship at the Powerlifting Raw Nationals. Junior Emmet Metzger won the 59kg weight class.

He broke his own school and personal best records with a 220kg squat, a 120kg bench, and 237.5kg deadlift. Sophomore Katie Bochenek led the women with a 12th place finish in the 72kg weight class. In the Teen 3 Division, first-year Caleb Rankin won the 120+kg male weight class and sophomore Alora Mouyard clinched third place in the 63kg female weight class.


Zoe BrochuSOCCER

Junior Zoe Brochu took home GLVC Defensive Player of the Year honors after leading the league’s goalkeepers with 12 shutouts, eight goals allowed, 0.43 goals allowed average, and a 0.890 save percentage. She was named to the Conference Commissioners Association Division II All-Midwest Region first-team and the All-GLVC first team, along with senior midfielder Jane Skaggs. Zoe led the team to the GLVC regular season title, as well as a third consecutive Division II NCAA Tournament appearance. 

The men’s team reached the final four in its program-first GLVC Championship Tournament appearance. Sophomore midfielder Eddie Davis was named to the United States Soccer Coaches DII-All-Midwest Region second team.


SOFTBALL

Assistant Softball Coach Chelsea Thomas was inducted into the University of Missouri Athletics Hall of Fame. A three-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association first-team All-American and conference Pitcher of the Year, she is the Tiger’s career leader with 111 victories and 1,174 strikeouts.


Hope GramlyWOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

First-year attacker Hope Gramly was named the GLVC Freshman of the Year. She was the regular season offensive leader with 336 kills, and second on the team with 98 total blocks. She helped lead the team to the GLVC Volleyball Championship Tournament in November.

 

MEN’S WATER POLO

First-year Matthew Haygood was voted the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division II Championship Rookie of the Year. During the regular season, he had 43 goals, 11 assists, and 54 points while accumulating 13 steals and 26 drawn exclusions. Junior Joseph Mahan was named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Division II All-American Team.

The Bearcats finished third at the CWPA Division II Championships, followed by a Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) West Region crown in November. In just its second year as a varsity program, the team qualified for the MAWPC Championships and finished in seventh place.
