Professional Development Opportunities
McKendree University offers a variety of professional development opportunities for
faculty and staff to help them "Make their Mark" in the classroom.
- Teaching for Excellence (T4E) Workshops focused on teaching and best practices to promote deep discussion about student learning
at McKendree in August, January, and May (The T4E Workshop in May focuses on assessment.)
- Brown Bag Lunch Series about topics of general academic interest each Wednesday at noon. Every other week's
Brown Bag is sponsored by the Social Justice and Equity Committee.
- Fall Teaching for Excellence Teaching Circles where faculty join a small group of faculty to visit classes and discuss
- Spring BEARcat Reading Group (Bearcats Engaged in Academic Reflection) where responsible faculty committed to
lifelong learning come together to discuss pedagogical literature and best practics
to increase student engagement
- Technology Workshops hosted by information technology and educational technology
- Service Learning Workshops hosted by the Lyn Huxford Center for Community Service
- New Full-time Faculty Orientation
- Advisor Training (twice per year for faculty and staff advisors)
- School and Division faculty development opportunities
- Webinars
- Research Sabbaticals for full-time faculty
- Division Chair Workshops for current or new division chairs
- Academic Planning Retreat for full-time faculty and select staff each May hosted by the Provost<
- Make Your Mark Boot Camp for full- and part-time faculty each May that focuses on timely topics and provides
participants with tools, resources, and ideas to transform their teaching and courses.
- McKendree University vCAT (virtual Center for the Advancement of Teaching) hosted on Brightspace provides full- and part-time faculty internal access to information and resources to support McKendree University faculty in their efforts
to offer a “high quality educational experience to outstanding students.”
