Recognizing the Relationship Between the City of O’Fallon and McKendree University

WHEREAS, McKendree University has served the educational needs of this region and the residents of the City of O’Fallon since 1828; and

WHEREAS, McKendree University has provided for the development of programs in the arts in this region and for the residents of the City of O’Fallon through programs at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts; and

WHEREAS, McKendree University has partnered with the City of O’Fallon to provide opportunities for the development of youth sports programs, and the health and wellbeing of the residents of the City of O’Fallon through the construction of the McKendree MetroRec Plex; and

WHEREAS, alumni, students, faculty and staff of McKendree University live, work and shop in the O’Fallon community and make significant volunteer, professional and financial contributions to the community; and

WHEREAS, the success and wellbeing of the City of O’Fallon, the City of Lebanon, and McKendree University are all enhanced by continued strong partnerships and common goals directed at strengthening this region;

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the O’Fallon City Council and the residents of O’Fallon, Illinois, I do hereby proclaim McKendree University as our “hometown University;” and urge the citizens of O’Fallon, Illinois to join me in recognizing the valuable contributions made by the University to our community and the region for 189 years; and reaffirm our desire as a City to continue to encourage and support the good work of McKendree University in this region.
