Community Service Scholarship for Incoming Students

McKendree values experiential education and takes seriously its mission of helping students achieve personal growth, an awareness of social responsibility, and an appreciation of the diversity of culture within the human community. Students have an opportunity to enroll in courses in which service becomes an integral part of the learning experience. Many of our students, staff, and faculty are involved in a wide array of volunteer activities serving the local community. During the course of the school year, the Lyn Huxford Center for Community Service hosts a variety of special projects such as Into the Streets and Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week which are developed and coordinated by our Scholars and interested McKendree students.

We are looking for students with a demonstrated commitment to community service and social justice to join us. We are offering scholarships to students who have record volunteering during their high school years. The scholarship is highly competitive and will be offered to six students at a maximum of $4,000 per year. If you are interested, please submit a letter of application describing your volunteer activities, an essay reflecting on the value of community service and your personal contributions to the community, and two letters of recommendation from people familiar with your community service. Applications are due Friday, December 4, 2020.
